I picked that scanner because it had a backlight in the cover to allow scanning transparencies and negatives a useful bonus.
And it seems that there is no support for that scanner yet in the sane package. Not recognized by xsane. I am queuing up my self here inorder to receive future updates regarding this problem. Monday through Friday, except holidays.
I did read that you should be ready ubunyu unplug a scanner if the element looks likely to try to go past the end, but that was just for people debugging new drivers. Scanning from CanoScan Lide results in black pages only.
Making Canon CanoScan LiDE 80 work (in Ubuntu)
I’m very sorry, but I was only lucky for about 10 correct clean scans after my above described reinstalling. Can be used to access any scanner supported by SANE over the net.
I have tested the scanner in Slightly updated patch instructions from above. Full flatbed support up to DPI Note: I thought that once the scanner was detected there would be no more problems.

At present the scanner is detected and it scans BUT the out is a black page. The program recognises the scanner ubintu Lide and there is a lettle noise from the scanner which stops after a few seconds.

The scanner now runs, but produces completely black images. Not checking for parallel port scanners. No No USB scanner.
